About this resource
The last weeks of Term 4 still deserve real maths. This colour by number mixes the Stage 3 skills worth revising before the holidays (order of operations, × and ÷, fractions and percentages of amounts, and money word problems) and turns them into a Christmas display. It opens on a toy order from Santa's workshop.
The three levels

Bronze (Beginner), 12 questions: × and ÷ by multiples of 10 and 100, order of operations with brackets, 4-digit + and −, two-step word problems. Picture: a snowman waving from a mug of hot chocolate.
Silver (Intermediate), 16 questions: brackets, 3-digit × and ÷ by 1-digit, 1/4 and 1/5 of amounts, 10%, 25% and 50%, and 10% and 25% discounts. Picture: a reindeer in a Santa hat by a little Christmas tree.
Gold (Expert), 20 questions: longer order of operations, 2-digit × 2-digit, 4-digit ÷ 1-digit, 3/4 and 1/10 of amounts, 75%, decimals to 3 places and multistep money problems. Picture: Santa and a snowman around a decorated Christmas tree.
Every page shows its level badge, and each level has a different picture, so a class set makes a bright Christmas display. Fast finishers write questions for a friend on the create-your-own page.
How it runs
Lesson 1: warm-up, key words, the order of operations, fractions and percentages of amounts, and three worked examples (brackets first, divide before you subtract, a sale price). Students start their level.
Lesson 2: students finish their questions, colour their picture and check it against the answer picture on the slides.
Lesson 3 (optional): move up a level or make a colour by number for a friend.

MA3-AR-01: add and subtract whole numbers and decimals to 3 places, and solve word problems
MA3-RQF-02: find 1/4, 1/5, 1/10 and 3/4 of quantities
MA3-RN-03: 10%, 25%, 50% and 75% of amounts, and sale prices after a 10% or 25% discount
Good to know
Everything is NSW Stage 3. Nothing is Stage 4.
The colour name is printed in every question box, so the black and white booklet works on a school printer.
