Share 7 kg of strawberries between 5 boxes and plenty of students write 1.2 kg, turning the remainder of 2 into 0.2 instead of 2/5 (0.4). That answer is a wrong option in this game about fair shares. Students see a fraction as a division, write remainders as fractions and decimals, share fractions with diagrams and find the whole from a part to climb to $1 million.

How it runs

Two lessons of 45–60 minutes. Lesson 1 has refreshers on fractions as division, remainders and finding the whole, the party sharing plan and a warm-up round, then the 12-question game. In Present mode, students click A to D: a correct answer shows the working, a wrong one shows a hint and Try again (PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides). For rotations, use the 12 task cards and the recording sheet with its fold-under answer strip. Lesson 2 covers the Case of the Unfair Slice, the bowling-trip savings task and writing your own $1 million question.

Maths covered

• MA3-RQF-01: use related denominators (quarters and eighths, fifths and tenths) to share a fraction equally with diagrams, like half of 3/4 = 3/8
• MA3-RQF-02: see a fraction as a division (3 ÷ 4 = 3/4), find fractions of quantities with remainders as decimals (7 ÷ 5 = 1.4), and build the whole from a part
• MA3-MR-01: record division using fractions and choose strategies to solve sharing problems
• Extension (Stage 4): Questions 9–12 and the number-line strategy, dividing by a fraction, are clearly labelled on the slides, task cards and strategy page (MA4-FRC-C-01)

• Questions 1–8 are Stage 3. Stop after Question 8 for a Stage 3 only session.
