56 editable slides, a 15-page booklet and movable measuring tools for triangle investigations

Give Year 5 and Year 6 students two ways to describe every triangle: its side lengths and its angles. This triangle lesson pack moves from equilateral, isosceles and scalene triangles to acute-angled, right-angled and obtuse-angled triangles, with sorting, measurement and reasoning activities.
The clickable triangle-type menu introduces the key properties. Students sort nine triangles into a table, measure four actual-size triangles in their booklet, and investigate what happens when they add the three angles. Worked examples and teacher answers help you model the reasoning.

The editable PowerPoint includes a grouped ruler and a transparent protractor for modelling measurement without a large whiteboard ruler or protractor. Select a tool and move or rotate it in editing view while projecting the slide.
The ruler is calibrated to triangle ABC on slide 19. Keep the ruler and triangle at their original sizes. Its millimetre markings represent that triangle’s worksheet scale, not physical millimetres on a screen. The protractor can be copied to other slides while preserving its proportions. Standard slideshow mode does not support dragging these objects.
Students use triangle properties to solve The Case of the Missing Sail Piece. They then examine a diamond kite, classify its triangles and plan a materials budget. The booklet includes reference material, space for working and a reflection page.
Classification and measurement support NSW Stage 3 MA3-2DS-01 and MA3-GM-03. Calculating missing triangle angles is kept in a clearly labelled Extension (Stage 4) section, with 11 questions and worked answers. Use the Getting started, On track and Challenge options to select appropriate tasks.
56 editable teacher slides, an updated teacher PDF and a 15-page A4 student booklet. Colour and black & white booklets come as PDFs and editable PowerPoints. Instructions, teacher notes, worked answers and font files are included. Print at A4 actual size for the measuring activity.
Build the sequence with types of angles and protractor practice and translation, reflection and rotation.
